Shirlie Taylor: Business Success Dynamics

Your words make an impact

Your words make a tremendous impact on others. Whether a casual conversation, or a focused business discussion, your words matter. The sound of your voice plays a role as well. Are you rushing through your response, do you have a positive tone, do you have the other person’s interest at heart? Conscious conversations are critical in today’s communication challenges.

Conscious conversations are results oriented

Your energy is transmitted to the other person. It can either build or destroy trust. Every word you say produces an effect. As I was interviewing a business owner recently, I noticed that she was a good listener and a thoughtful speaker. When she spoke, her words were understanding and calmingly professional. I could see her presenting to a client with all intent of engaging the other person, building trust by asking questions, and truly reassuring the results of the conversation.

Your choice of words matters

Choose your words wisely. Ask yourself the question, “Do I want to make a difference in someone’s life today?” In my experience, I have found that kind words matter. To convey to another person that you care, that you understand without judgment, and that they matter as a human being, can be the inspiration that person needs to live another day. Your words matter!

For more on how your words matter, I highly recommend reading the book: Conversational Intelligence. How great leaders build trust and get extraordinary results by Judith E. Glaser

“To get to the next level of greatness depends on the quality of the culture, which depends on the quality of relationships, which depends on the quality of conversations. Everything happens through conversations.” – Judith E. Glaser
