7 Steps to Becoming A Brand New You
By Lydia Sutton
It can be hard to know where to start to become the best version of yourself. Knowing what to do, how to do it, and sometimes simply finding the motivation to get started. But don’t worry, we have you covered. In order to be the most successful version of yourself in the work place and at home, start with these easy steps:
- Plan ahead and set your own personal goals.
- Stop complaining and start working towards your goals.
- Learn it’s ok to say no and stand up for yourself.
- Learn to listen.
- Set a routine for yourself.
- Find an accountability partner to help you reach your goals.
- Don’t give up!
Now what do these steps mean? Don’t worry, we’ll break it down.
Step 1: Plan ahead and set your own personal goals
It is important to know what you are working towards when you start to better yourself. Setting achievable goals and giving yourself a timeline to work with will help you stay motivated and keep that end goal at the forethought of your mind.
Step 2: Stop complaining and start working towards your goals
Many people often take the easy way out and play the victim card. “I can’t because…” Get rid of the “I can’t” mentality and start thinking “I can.” Only then will you start to see progress. Don’t give yourself an excuse to opt out of bettering yourself, because you will regret it later.
Step 3: Learn it’s ok to say no and stand up for yourself
It can be hard to say no, especially when it’s towards people we care about. But it is important to know that it’s ok to prioritize yourself and say no when you need to.
Step 4: Learn to listen.
A majority of problems stem from an inability to communicate. We tend to think that we are always in the right, but it is important to know that it’s ok to be wrong and that accepting that and listening to what others have to say and listening to their experiences can open your mind to ideas and possibilities and answers you had never considered. So remember to listen to those around you, those with life experience, work expeirence, etc., and take their lessons to heart, because you never know what you may learn.
Step 5: Set a routine for yourself.
Self-improvement can be challenging to keep up with. Going to the gym, eating healthy, setting aside time for yourself; all of these things can fall apart very quickly if you lose motivation or energy. One way to avoid this is by setting a routine for yourself that will help you set aside time for the things you need to do to become a better you.
Step 6: Find an accountability partner to help you reach your goals.
One of the best ways to ensure that you reach your goals is to find a close friend to take this jounrye with you, and if not to at least help hold you accountable. Having a friend remind you to do your work, or to go to the gym, or whatever your personal journey entails will significantly increase your chances of accomplishing those goals. So find a friend and have them help you hold yourself accountable on this journey!
Step 7: Don’t give up!
The most important step is to remember to never give up. There will be triumphs and defeats, great days and bad days, but remember that is just part of the journey. So stay strong, stay motivated, and work towards your self-improvement goals to become the best version of yourself!
Questions to Ask
It is important to be intuitive and reflective during your journey. Asking yourself questions and getting to know the inner workings of your mind can often be a good place to start! Questions like…
- What is holding me back from my dream life?
- What kind of procrastinator am I?
- Where should I start to reduce mental clutter?
